Privacy & Security Bits and Bytes

Here are some things to ponder during the Columbus Day weekend:

My colleague, Dianne Bourque, has written an interesting piece about the new Texas health information law – combine this with the expanded breach notification laws that could impose Texas-style breach notification requirements on all 50 states, and we perhaps have a glimpse into Governor Perry’s views of privacy legislation.

Mintz Levin attorney Ellyn Sternfield is quoted extensively in the latest New York Times article regarding the Stanford Hospital data breach (registration may be required).

Computerworld is reporting on Amazon’s new Silk browser and the concerns raised by privacy advocates. The browser will connect to a cloud service owned by the company, thereby speeding up browsing capabilities and all your browsing history will be stored in the cloud service.  The Electronic Frontier Foundation commented that “there are some worrisome privacy issues” in general around use of browsing history.
